SCHOOL LAW SEMINAR

The 30th Annual School Law Seminar was held on Thursday, October 29, 2009, at the Ramkota Hotel in Bismarck.

NDSBA Legal Counsel Gary Thune began with a presentation on Patron Complaints: Personnel and Discharge Hearings. Tiffany Johnson covered the topic Patron Complaints: Instructional Materials with Beulah Board President Phil Eastgate also sharing his thoughts. Gary then discussed Recent Attorney General's Opinions on School Matters, with Virginia Beggs, Garrison Business Manager, also presenting.

The afternoon session began with Gary and Kirsten Baesler, Mandan Board President, discussing Nonrenewal for Cause Hearings. Alyssa Martin, NDSBA Policy Services Director, followed with The Top Five Little Known Mandates That May Haunt Your School District.

The last presentation of the day had Gary addressing Lawsuits and Discrimination Actions in 2009.

The NDCSA Annual Meeting took place immediately following the seminar, with President Patrick Fisher presiding.
