| The 32nd Annual School Law
Seminar was held on Thursday, October 27, at the Ramkota
Hotel in Bismarck.
Aleeza Strubel, from the Office of Civil Rights, opened the seminar with a presentation on Bullying and Sexual Harassment from the federal perspective. Associate Legal Counsel Tiffany Johnson and NDSBA Director of Policy Services Alyssa Martin followed with a discussion on policy and law in North Dakota regarding bullying. To finish out the morning, NDSBA Legal Counsel Gary Thune presented the first potpourri session that covered Veteran's Preference; Teacher Files: Appeals, Removal, Evaluations and Improvement Plans; North Dakota Child Labor Laws; and At-Will Employee Status. The afternoon session began with the second potpourri session dealing with drug testing and other searches of employees; open meetings/executive sessions/OCR; and donating money to non-profits. Gary Thune then presented a session on investigating alleged misconduct. The afternoon concluded with Tiffany Johnson and Gary Thune sharing information on recent legal cases of North Dakota school districts. The NDCSA Annual Meeting took place immediately following the seminar with President Tiffany Johnson presiding. |
